EBX18 - Four Ring Double Jointed Gag with Vented Copper Spinner

Four Ring Double Jointed Gag with Vented Copper Spinner

The four ring gag, also known as a Dutch gag, offers a variety of rein attachment options to improve control over an onward bound horse when show jumping or riding across country. The lower the rein is attached, the greater the leverage exerted. Meanwhile, the spinner helps to prevent the horse from putting his tongue over the bit.

Spinner
The spinner is formed of two circular rings that sit on top on the tongue. They move with the tongue to prevent the horse from putting his tongue over the bit or rolling his tongue up behind the bit. It is designed to make the horse more relaxed in his mouth and encourages him to go forward into the bridle, rather than ducking behind the bit.

The spinner shown here is made from copper, which is believed to produce a sweet taste in the horse's mouth as it oxidises. This encourages the horse to salivate and soften to the contact.

Our spinners can also be made in stainless steel, in solid or vented styles.

Four Ring Gag
The top ring is attached to the cheekpieces to apply poll pressure, resulting in the horse's head lowering, while the lower rings provide leverage, causing a head raising action. When these actions are combined, it results in a gag action.

The reins can be attached to this bit in a number of ways to create the desired action: when attached to the big main ring it results in a hanging cheek action with poll pressure, and if attached to either of the bottom rings it creates a gag action. The lower the reins are attached to the bit, the greater the leverage exerted. This bit can also be used with two reins - one on the main ring and one on either of the bottom rings - or pelham roundings connecting the rings.

Available in 5in, 5.5in or 6in.
