With the sun finally making an appearance and because it’s Sun Awareness Week, we thought we’d take a look at some products which will protect you and your horse. Not only do we need to protect our skin from the sun, it also brings a lot of other pesky things with it, which you need to protect yourself and your horse from. From breeches to fly spray, we’re going to run through some of our must-have products to help you enjoy the lovely sunny days ahead.

As well as all of the above, here are top tips for keeping you and your horse healthy in the sun:
- Make sure you both drink lots of water avoid dehydration
- Apply sun cream frequently with a factor of at least 15 or preferably higher. Make sure you apply it to yourself and on your horse’s sensitive area like their muzzle and pink areas of skin which may be susceptible to burning.
- If you’re competing, make sure you leave as early as possible to avoid over heating whilst travelling and make sure you take lots of fresh water with you
- Provide protection against the flies i.e. fly spray and make sure there are areas of shade
So, whilst making sure you enjoy this glorious weather with your horse, also make sure that both of you are protected against the sun’s rays as well as the hazards which come with it!
