The Waterford Elevator is a popular show jumping and cross-country bit for strong horses because it offers enhanced control and precision.
The Elevator cheeks have a lifting effect on the horse's head, neck and shoulders, while also encouraging the horse to engage his hocks. This makes the horse easier to manoeuvre and can assist with making tight turns in jump-offs. The cheeks also reinforce turning aids, as the shanks press against the horse's face when a steering instruction is given.
The Waterford mouthpiece is often a good choice for horses that lean on the bit, as the series of ball links mean there is nothing rigid for the horse to latch onto and pull. As the Waterford moulds around the horse's mouth, it is suitable for most types of mouth conformation, including horses with large tongues.
