This Beris Ported Nelson Gag has a ported mouthpiece combined with a full cheek running gag to give extra control.
PORTED MOUTHPIECE
This bit fits the horse's mouth anatomically so it sits in the perfect position. The flattened area on the port allows plenty of space for the horse's tongue. As a result, many horses respond with increased relaxation and chewing.
This bit is often suitable for horses that won't tolerate tongue pressure and react by headshaking.
This bit is also a good choice for those that tend to put their tongue over the bit. The port helps to prevent this be removing the central tongue pressure.
NELSON GAG
The running gag rein causes a tipping effect of the bit while moving the mouthpiece back to the edge of the mouth.
This gives a stronger effect on the lips and tongue.
The full cheeks offer more precise steering, as pressure is applied to the cheek when a turning aid is given. They also ensure that the mouthpiece remains in a central position and cannot slide through the horse's mouth.
The Nelson gag is often useful for adding brakes, and works well for horses that tend to lean on the bit or fall on the forehand.
Beris Bits are available in 13cm or 14cm, with a soft or a hard mouthpiece.
