Made up of a series of ball chain links, the Waterford mouthpiece is flexible in all directions and moulds around the horse's mouth. This makes it suitable for most types of mouth conformation, even horses with large tongues.
The movable links encourage the horse to gently mouth the bit and relax their jaw. The addition of copper rollers enhances this effect, as many horses like the taste of copper and it promotes salivation and mouthing of the bit. The loose rings further increase the bit's ability to move within the mouth.
The Waterford can be very useful for horses that tend to set their jaw, lean, or take hold of the bit because there is nothing rigid for the horse to take hold of, thus giving the rider extra control.
